About
THE DRAFT FUTURITY HAS A FUTURE!
As many of you may be aware after 10 years of organizing and hosting the Draft Futurity Program, David, and Margo Carson, have made the difficult decision to step down effective 2023, along with several of the current Futurity Board members
In late August 2021, David & Margo Carson held an open virtual meeting to determine next steps for the Futurity. We are happy to report the new “Canadian Draft Horse Futurity” will commence in 2023. The current Futurity Board has graciously offered to show us the ropes in 2021 & 2022.
The “NEW” Canadian Draft Horse Futurity board would like to reassure everyone that the Futurity Program as we know it will continue.
Foals previously sold in the futurity program will have a competition to participate in.
Although we have adopted a new name with many fresh faces, no immediate changes are proposed by the new board. The current rules and regulations remain unchanged in addition to the 3-event program premise we are all accustomed to.
Our mission is to promote, protect and develop purebred Belgian, Clydesdale & Percheron horse stock in Canada and to encourage a general and constant improvement in the breeding of Belgian, Clydesdale & Percheron horses.
As treasurer for the New Futurity board, I would personally like to thank David & Margo Carson as well as the current board members for producing such an outstanding event that I am proud to participate in. With the foundation you have built and your ongoing mentorship the new board is poised to move into the next chapter of the Futurity program.
Draft horse enthusiasts can keep up to date on all aspects of the futurity via our Facebook page, “Canadian Draft Horse Futurity.” Our new web site is currently under construction. Keep an eye on Facebook for launch date.
With foaling season around the corner, now could be the perfect time to get your breeding program on the minds and lips of the draft horse world.
A safe and happy winter to you all.
Joanne Douglas-Lane
Treasurer, The Canadian Draft Horse Futurity
